On November 7, 2016, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a surprise announcement stating all INR 500 and 1,000 banknotes would be withdrawn from the financial system, effective immediately. It was a drastic economic intervention that voided over 85% of cash in circulation overnight. On the one-year anniversary of demonetization in India, we are bringing together a panel of experts to dissect the policy and share their view on its effect on financial inclusion in a post demonetization economy.

We look forward to an engaging conversation. Please join us to discuss and debate the effect of demonetization:

  • What actually happened after the demonetization?
  • Impact of Demonetization on Financial Inclusion and their clients
  • Private and public sector reforms: Who are the winners and losers in the economy?
  • Has the government achieved any of its goals? And if so, at what costs?
  • What will the future hold?
